Biography
Coach Moises Rizo brings nearly two decades of Muay Thai experience and over a decade of boxing knowledge to New Concept BJJ. His journey into martial arts began from a deeply personal place-overweight, recently divorced, a single father, and battling depression. After an initial visit to Saekson Janjira’s legendary gym left him intimidated, he returned a year or two later with the resolve to train and never looked back.
In his early years, Moises trained without a specific goal, until Saekson himself invited him to compete in a smoker in Detroit. That invitation became the catalyst for change. Through grit, discipline, and countless hours of hard work, Moises transformed himself-ultimately cutting from 250 pounds to compete at 145 pounds. While competition was never his primary goal, Moises trained and fought out of Saekson’s fighter gym, gaining invaluable experience in both Muay Thai and MMA.
Coach Moises is one of the few instructors certified to teach under the Saekson Janjira lineage distinction, which is earned through trust, loyalty, and years of dedication. His style of coaching reflects the intensity of traditional Muay Thai-aggressive, purposeful, and real. Yet within that intensity, he emphasizes growth, resilience, and inner peace. He believes in being “comfortable while uncomfortable” and “calm in the storm”-life lessons that extend far beyond the gym.
Moises is passionate about helping others transform their lives through training, just as it transformed his. He currently runs a BootCamp class with family and friends twice a week and trains a younger generation-including his nephews and children in strength and conditioning.
To Coach Moises, teaching isn’t just about technique’s about planting seeds of confidence, strength, and self-respect. He finds fulfillment in watching people light up with pride as they achieve things they once thought impossible. “When life pushes, push back. When life hits, hit back,” he says. His mission is to help others discover their own steel and to stand strong in every fight, both in and out of the ring.
